Electric Ireland to Increase Electricity and Gas Prices from 1 July 2026

Electric Ireland has announced a price increase for residential electricity and gas customers from 1 July 2026, with electricity prices rising by 8% and gas prices increasing by 7.7%.

For many households already managing high living costs, the announcement means another increase in monthly energy bills heading into the second half of 2026.

As one of Ireland’s largest energy suppliers, Electric Ireland provides electricity and gas to approximately 1.1 million homes across the country. That means changes to its prices can affect a large number of households and are often closely watched across the wider energy market.

What prices are changing?

Electric Ireland has confirmed that from 1 July 2026:

  • Electricity prices will increase by 8%
  • Gas prices will increase by 7.7%

The supplier says the increase will apply to residential customers from the start of July. For households, the change is expected to add approximately:

  • €138 per year to the average electricity bill
  • €117 per year to the average gas bill

For dual fuel customers using both electricity and gas, annual energy costs could rise by more than €250 per year, depending on household usage.

Why are prices going up?

Electric Ireland says the increase reflects rising wholesale energy costs, particularly increases in international gas prices.

Wholesale energy markets have become more volatile in recent weeks, with geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in global gas markets continuing to place upward pressure on energy costs across Europe.

The supplier also highlighted that it had reduced prices several times during 2023 and 2024 and had largely held prices steady in recent months while some suppliers increased rates. However, with wholesale costs rising again, those pressures are now beginning to feed through to household bills.

If you are worried about paying your energy bills, contact your supplier as early as possible to discuss payment plans or support options that may be available.

Finding a better deal

If you are an Electric Ireland customer, now is a good time to review your tariff and check whether you are still on the best available deal. Many households stay with the same supplier for years without reviewing their tariff. However, when prices increase and supplier discounts change, it is worth checking whether your current deal still offers good value.

This is particularly important when a supplier announces a price rise, as the difference between tariffs can widen quickly.
