Energia Increasing Electricity and Gas Prices from 12th October

Energia has announced that it will increase electricity and gas prices for customers from 12th October 2026.

The changes will see a typical household’s electricity bill increase by 4.73%, adding around €87 a year, while the typical gas bill will rise by 9.38%, adding around €143 a year.

For customers taking both electricity and gas from Energia, the average impact will be 6.73% – adding around €230 a year to the typical dual fuel bill.

Energia has around 290,000 customers in Ireland, including approximately 220,000 electricity customers and 70,000 gas customers. It’s another unwelcome increase for households as we head towards the colder months and follows price rises announced by a number of other energy suppliers during 2026.

What does the price change mean?

Rates are increasing by different amounts depending on the fuel and type of tariff (24hr, Smart, EV) so the actual impact will depend on the tariff you are on and how much energy you use.

For a typical customer:

  • Electricity bills will increase by 4.73%, or around €87 a year
  • Gas bills will increase by 9.38%, or around €143 a year
  • A typical dual fuel bill will increase by 6.73%, or around €230 a year

These figures are based on typical annual consumption of 4,200 kWh for electricity and 11,000 kWh for gas. Energia has also factored the updated PSO Levy, effective from 1st October 2026, into its electricity calculations.

How are electricity prices changing?

Unlike some price announcements, Energia is not applying the same increase across all of its electricity tariffs.

For customers on 24hr & Nightsaver (non-smart) tariffs, unit rates will increase by 2%, while standing charges will increase by 5%.

For customers on Energia’s Smart tariffs, the changes vary depending on when electricity is used:

  • Day rate: increasing by 3%
  • Night rate: increasing by 28%
  • Peak rate: increasing by 5%
  • Standing charge: increasing by 5%

For customers on smart tariffs, the impact on their individual bill will therefore depend on when they use electricity throughout the day, as day, night and peak rates are priced differently.

Customers on Energia’s dedicated EV tariffs will also see changes from 12th October. The EV charging rate will increase by:

  • 30% on EV Smart Drive
  • 20% on Smart Drive Plus

The standing charge on both EV tariffs will increase by 28%.

So while Energia’s headline electricity bill increase is 4.73%, the impact for an EV customer could look quite different depending on how much electricity they use for charging and when that charging takes place.

Energia’s EV tariffs are specifically designed around cheaper charging periods, so customers on these plans should look closely at the new individual rates rather than relying solely on the headline average increase.

Why prices are changing?

Energia says the increases are being driven by continued volatility in global energy markets and higher network charges.

The announcement makes Energia the latest major energy supplier to increase household prices during 2026, following recent announcements Bord Gais Energy, SSE Airtricity, Pinergy, Flogas, Yuno Energy and Electric Ireland during recent months.

Another reason to check your energy deal

With prices changing again, it is worth checking whether your current Energia tariff still offers good value.

This is particularly important for smart and EV customers, where the cost of electricity can vary significantly depending on when energy is used.

Customers affected by the price change also have the right to end their Energia contract (without an exit fee) within 30 days of the price-change notification.
