SSE Airtricity has announced that it will increase electricity and gas prices for customers from 5th October 2026.
The increase will see a typical household’s electricity bill rise by 8.9%, while the typical gas bill will increase by 9.3%.
For customers taking both electricity and gas from SSE Airtricity, the combined impact will be around 9.1% – adding approximately €311 a year to the average dual fuel bill.
It’s another unwelcome increase for households as we head towards the colder months and follows price rises announced by a number of other energy suppliers during 2026.
What does the price change mean?
From 5th October 2026:
- A typical electricity bill will increase by 8.9%, adding around €171.55 a year
- A typical gas bill will increase by 9.3%, adding around €138.70 a year
- A typical dual fuel customer will pay around €311.48 more each year
- The electricity standing charge will also increase by 6.1%
- There will be no change to the gas standing charge
The changes will affect around 300,000 SSE Airtricity customers on variable tariffs and will apply to both smart and non-smart tariffs.
The actual increase you see on your bill will depend on how much electricity or gas you use and the tariff you are currently on.
Why prices are changing?
Stephen Gallagher, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity said
the increase is due to continued volatility in global energy markets and rising network charges.
The supplier said wholesale gas prices have more than doubled over the past 12 months and that it had worked to shield customers from some of these higher costs, but could no longer absorb the full impact.
SSE Airtricity is the latest supplier to announce higher prices, following increases from Pinergy, Flogas, Yuno Energy and Electric Ireland during recent months.
Another increase for SSE Airtricity customers
The latest announcement follows previous increases for SSE Airtricity customers.
In October 2025, SSE Airtricity increased its standard variable electricity prices by 9.5%, adding around €151 a year to a typical electricity bill. This followed earlier increases to both electricity and gas prices in April 2025.
For customers who haven’t reviewed their energy deal recently, the latest increase is another good reason to check what you’re paying.
Finding a better deal
With prices increasing again, it is particularly important not to simply accept a higher bill without checking the alternatives.
Energy suppliers continue to offer discounts and introductory deals to customers who switch, and the difference between tariffs can be significant.
Even if your current supplier is increasing prices, another supplier may offer a lower annual cost based on your actual electricity and gas usage.
